When the Thunder Rolls

Lighting flashes
on the horizon
The wind is rustling
along the ground
What was once a sunny day
is now dark...
the air smells like rain.
The clouds thicken,
daring me to test their strength.
The raindrops start,
like tears falling
out of a saddened sky.
And then the thunder rolls...

But I am safe.
When the thunder rolls,
I am held in the arms
of the One Who calmed the seas.
Lightning may flash...
but it cannot touch me.
The wind can tear at my heart...
but it cannot move me.
The rain can fall and drench me,
but I am not afraid...
Beacause when the thunder rolls...
I am safe.
The storm can rip apart
everything I know
It can break my heart...
but it cannot break my faith.
I am held in the arms
of the One Who calmed the seas.
When the thunder rolls...
I am safe.

Light a Lantern

Light a lantern
on a darkened road
See your footsteps
carve a path
Scribble some lines
across the book
Make your mark,
invent your look.
This is Your journey
and He has led you here.
Lighting each path,
wiping each tear.
Life is full of questions
but somehow answers remain
on the surface, barely visible
through this heavy, falling rain.
So trust Him to lead you
though you don't know where you're going.
Light a lantern
on a darkened road
Walk the earth
and watch the sky
Scribble some lines
across the book
Take a chance
learn to dance
Live while waiting
for life to start
Learn while waiting
for lightning to strike
Follow the Road
Walk the Way
Light a lantern...

Smiling Through the Storm

When You came walking on the water
Your disciples were afraid.
You told them to have good cheer...
To "be not afraid."
You told Peter he could walk to You
and he stepped out of the boat.
But then, he took his eyes off You,
and looked at the wind and the waves instead.
He cried out for You to save him...
and once again, You did.

Lord, many times I've seen You
walking across the waves to me.
You call through the wind...
You tell me to jump out of the boat...
To take a step off of solid ground,
and onto the wild, raging sea.
I take a step towards You...
But then my eyes wander.
I look at the wind
I look at the waves...
it looks like more than I can take
and I cry "Lord, save me!"
And You're there.
You save me again and again.

Lord, too many times
I take my eyes off You.
Too many times, I look around
and see my circumstances...
instead of seeing Your face
through the storm.
I don't want to step out of the boat...
I want to leap out.
I want to let go of my fears,
and look at Your face alone.
I want to see You...
     ...Smiling through the storm.

I wrote this a few days ago... I believe it was the 9th. I know it's not the best piece of writing you've ever seen... and it's kinda short... I'm just trying to get back into the routine of doing regular writing.

My Prayer

As I sit here tonight
I know You see me.
I can picture You watching me
from beyond the sky.
Lord, I feel so small tonight.
I'm thinking about the universe
and the love that sent Jesus to earth
and I don't measure up.
Maybe it's okay to know my worthlessness...
if only to realize how worthy You are.
Maybe it's okay to realize how small I am...
so that I can catch
a tiny glimpse of how great You are.
I won't ever know the depth of Your love, will I?
That's okay.
It's enough for me to know
that it's too deep for me to know.
When I think of Jesus...
when I remember the sacrifice...
It brings me to my knees.
Yet that's where I should always be.
I guess remembering
is what I have to do sometimes.
It puts things in perspective.
So as I sit here tonight...
I will remember...
     ...and I love You.

Wow. It's been forever since I've posted on here. I really just haven't been writing much lately. Life gets busy, you know.

I've got something to post on here today, though. I wrote this last year... around Christmas. Now, I know that it's not an expert piece of writing, but I think that's okay. We don't have to be perfect all the time.

Bethlehem Star

He came to earth
in a simple manger,
and yet He was a King.
Lived His life,
died my death;
sent to fulfill
the hopes
of desperate hearts.

Bethlehem Star,
sent for you.
Bethlehem Star,
sent for me.
When the night is black,
when everything fades,
look into the sky,
and see the Bethlehem Star.

Born of a virgin,
in a humble stable.
Raised by a father,
in a carpenter's home.
The Light of the world
sent to darkness.
God's only Son,
sent to ransom me.

Bethlehem Star,
sent for you.
Bethlehem Star,
sent for me.
When the night is black,
when everything fades,
look into the sky,
and see the Bethlehem Star.

So at Christmas time this year,
look to God above.
Thank Him for His gift,
and remember what He did
on a holy night in Bethlehem.
He came to earth,
on Christmas day,
to be our Bethlehem Star.

Bethlehem Star,
sent for you.
Bethlehem Star,
sent for me.
When the night is black,
when everything fades,
look into the sky,
and see the Bethlehem Star.
